Challenge of Social Transitions to Global Sustainable Society
Aims: Mitigating climate change and transitioning to a decarbonized sustainable society requires not only technological social transformation through natural science, but also global and interdisciplinary collaboration. Positive social transformation requires the help of the social sciences as they relate to people's behavior, social structures, and policy formation and implementation. This seminar will introduce the need for social and cultural transformation and specific examples, outline the current state of material flow and technology research aimed at decarbonization, and discuss Social Tipping Dynamics from both the social and natural sciences.
